Big Rome Running, Inc., was established March 2020 to honor the life and legacy of Jerome Scales. Jerome was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
His love for running started out as just a hobby, but it soon led him to competing nationally and internationally on the running circuit. Jerome competed in 5 of the 6 Abbott World Marathon Majors. He competed in Berlin, Boston, Chicago, New York, and London marathons.
Big Rome Running, Inc., is organized exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes, more specifically to inspire and engage the community to achieve health and fitness through running and walking by encouraging people of all ages to engage in fitness through recreational activities and events by collaborating with the assistance of partners and others that promote and encourage health and fitness.
Big Rome Running was birthed from from a blog created by Jerome Scales to document his love of racing. Jerome was a staple in the Atlanta Running Community, certified coach, and Atlanta Track Club member and board member for many years. He would faithfully use his taglines #OneMileAtATime and #KeepRunning to inspire people both online and in real life. After Jerome was diagnosed with cancer in 2016, he continued to inspire people from all walks of life. The logos and designs for the non-profit were crafted by Jerome for his own personal t-shirts he would regularly wear after his treatments.
Jerome passed away on June 20, 2019, at the age of 48. Since his passing there have been numerous races, internships, and scholarships established in his honor with Delta Airlines, Delta Dusters, Atlanta Track Club, Atlanta Southside Runners, and Revolution Running just to name a few. This organization is Jerome’s living legacy founded by his surviving wife and their three children.
One hundred percent of every donation to our nonprofit funds athletic scholarships. You can also “purchase with a purpose” from our online store, where a portion of the proceeds fund athletic scholarships for long distance runners.
